As Halloween approaches, join us for a deliciously dark evening of Tartan Noir, gothic mystery and spine-tingling Scottish crime with acclaimed authors Suzy Aspley and Michael J. Malone, in conversation with bestselling crime writer Alex Gray.
Prepare to step into the shadows as Suzy and Michael discuss their latest novels, The Bone Mother and The Cutting, two atmospheric and unsettling thrillers that bring together murder, mystery, folklore and the supernatural.

Join us at Bernie’s Cafe Deli this November to celebrate the paperback release of Common Ground with Scottish prize-winning author Elissa Soave.
Elissa is the author of Ginger and Me and Graffiti Girls, and Common Ground is a brilliant, warm and thought-provoking story about friendship, family and the things that bring us together.
Elissa will be in conversation with writer and podcaster Helen Cross, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

Germaine only accepted the job at the Kenmar allotments for a fresh start. Far from anyone who knows her history she can focus on work and tending to her own plot. Most of the other plot-holders keep to themselves and that suits her just fine.
But when the local council announces plans to turn the allotments into luxury housing, Germaine finds herself leading a battle to save the place that has become a sanctuary for fractured souls. Amidst crumbling sheds and overgrown paths, the rag-tag band plan protests, forge alliances and uncover long-buried secrets. Soon they’ll learn that the allotments aren’t just plots of land but a place to belong.

We are delighted to be the official bookseller for the brand new Rutherglen Book Festival, running from 29th October to 21st November!
There's a fantastic programme of events, with some brilliant names including Denise Mina, Frank Quitely, Callum McSorley and Michael Mullen, alongside poetry workshops led by Nalini Paul and a special workshop inspired by the work of Edwin Morgan.

Join us for our next bookshop pop-up at Bernie's in Bridge of Weir! We'll be bringing a variety of books for all ages including Halloween and Christmas titles, and blind date with a book! We'll also have signed copies of Stephen Graham's Letters to Our Sons and Tom Fletcher's Danger Game among many others..
We’ll be back at the beautiful Wild Ivy Market at Johnstone Town Hall this November with lots of other amazing traders. It’s the perfect time to do some Christmas shopping! We’ll have a variety of books for all ages, including lots of Christmas titles!

our story
The Ginger Cat Bookshop was founded in 2021, beginning life as a dedicated children’s bookshop in Kilmacolm. As our community grew, so did we - relocating to Bridge of Weir and expanding into a welcoming, independent bookshop for readers of all ages.
From the very beginning, we’ve been passionate about bringing books to life beyond the page. We’ve hosted author events in schools, within the bookshop, and at venues across Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. Along the way, we also launched the Gryffe Valley Book Festival, celebrating storytelling and creativity within our local community.
We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming a wide range of authors, from bestselling crime writer Ann Cleeves to John Davidson and the Reverend Richard Coles. Supporting our community has always been central to what we do, and we are proud to have worked alongside charities such as Women’s Aid and Young Carers.
In early 2025, we were honoured to be shortlisted as a Scottish finalist at the British Book Awards, a testament to the incredible support from our readers and community.
Later that year, we made the difficult decision to close our physical bookshop when our lease came to an end. However, this was not the end of The Ginger Cat Bookshop, just a new chapter.
Today, we continue as a pop-up bookshop, bringing carefully curated books to new spaces and audiences, while continuing to host the author events that have always been at the heart of what we do.
